Dhivya - Only question Most of us have is how to reduce weight without doing
exercise or diet 😂..just joking 😜
Aswini - A calorie deficit is indeed the simplest way to lose weight in a healthier
manner. You don't have to follow a strict diet regimen for it. Just slightly
reducing your intake compared to your usual requirement should be sufficient.
Jason - what's the best effective way in finding this though? people usually tell it
with charts. but what's the best way to find our maintenance calorie?
Ayesha - I use an app called myfitnesspal, enter your details, it’ll tell one basic
amount you should maintain and then start weighing the food you eat. Based on that
it’ll calculate and tell.
Jason - Jason Samuel: nope. inaccurate when compared with how a nutritionist
calculates.
Jason Samuel: they have different table values and a different software to calculate
calorie values. and they are very accurate.
Aswini - You can usually figure out your bmr( basal metabolic rate) from google.
Basal metabolic rate is how much calories we burn without any exercise or
activities. So it usually ranges between 1200-1500 for a female and 1300-1700kcal/
day for a male. Once you know this, you can simply start tracking what you eat in
any nutrition apps(healthifyme, my fitness pal)Eat lesser than your bmr.
This is how you can easily do.
For an advance, you can use a calculator called Harris Benedict equation. Which
is how we experts use to calculate the numbers. They are more precise even in
decimals.
Aswini: Harris Benedict equation should help. Its too much math but perfect.
We get used to it while practicing 🤣
Aswini /sppi: Is the proposal still open ?🤣
Ayesha - Ayesha ajmal /sppi: This sounds so complicated but so cool that it’s
accurate. So apps show bloated numbers or lesser than actual ?
Jason Samuel - aah. cool. can you confirm this by doing this over every day, and if
we don't see any major increase or decrease in weight over 5 days, note down the
calories each day and then divide it by 5 - will that work as the maintenance
calorie of the person?
Aswini - Yes because no app or tech can determine how much you burn as a generalized
adult. An adult sit and works whole day and an adult with a sales job or so runs
around has two different way of having a basal calorie burn so it varies.
Atheeque Ahmed K - Should we explore an integration with blood sugar value and
correlation with it .
Aswini - Coz at the end, the overall population needs a deficit. Especially
whoever usually are tech. So keeping it lower is safer
No, too complicated. Like how smart watches evolved the blood sugar
machine(CGM) has evolved to exploit personally. I don't personally recommend.
Apps aren't too accurate to be precise as far as I have seen. It creates an
obsession to stick to the numbers most of the time. Food psychology is a different
chapter where people become obsessed with counting calories more. So i recommend to
take it easy with the small 100-200cal usually.
Can infant consume baked good?
I heard since breastfeeding shouldn't opt for calorie deficit diet.
I have a doubt does infants or toddlers can consume baked goods
with baking soda and baking powder? Because of its composition is it advisable?
Aswini - They have a different formula for calorie calculation and it does help in
lactation.
Not advisable. The kidney can't excrete the sodium completely till the age of 4-5
years so it's not advisable at all
Cow milk consumption in infant
Also can you enlighten about the cow milk consumption and A2 milk for infants and
toddlers
Aswini i - From a nutrition point. The milk digestion in general gets low by the age
of 7-8yrs. Our secretion of lactase enzyme in body to digest the lactose become
lesser so its not a must for toddlers. Regardless of whatever milk it is.
In infants yes the content casein is lesser in a2 milk compared to the normal/a1
cows milk and tolerated better as per recent study
But since a2 is just new to our era. It needs more research and evidence is what I
feel.
